Introduction: The Reign

Of King Jesus On Earth

Following the Rapture, the Bema Seat of Christ (Judgement for Believers Raptured), the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, and the Second Coming, Jesus will establish a Millennial Kingdom - a literal, 1,000-year period in which He reigns on earth from Jerusalem. This reign fulfills Messianic prophecies, brings justice to the nations, and demonstrates God's perfect governance.

The Millennium is a time of peace, righteousness, and spiritual restoration, contrasting sharply with the chaos of the Tribulation. Studying it gives believers a vision of hope, a glimpse of God's ultimate plan, and insight into the eternal purposes of Christ.

Scriptural Foundation

"Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their foreheads and on their hands; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years." - Revelation 20:4

"And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, And the leopard will lie down with the young goat, And the calf and the young lion and the fattened steer will be together; And a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze, Their young will lie down together, And the lion will eat straw like the ox. The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, And the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord As the waters cover the sea." - Isaiah 11:6-9

"And the Lord will be King over all the earth; on that day the L ord will be the only one, and His name the only one." - Zechariah 14:9

Key Features Of The Millennial Kingdom

  1. Christ's Physical Reign On The Earth

    1. Jesus will rule from Jerusalem, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies.

      - Isaiah 2:3, "And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord , To the house of the God of Jacob; So that He may teach us about His ways, And that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go out from Zion And the word of the L ord from Jerusalem."

    2. His reign will be visible and literal, not merely spiritual or symbolic.

      - Zechariah 14:16, "Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the L ord of armies, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths."

    3. Nations will recognize His authority and obey His commands.

      - Psalm 72:8-11, "May he also rule from sea to sea, And from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. May the nomads of the desert bow before him, And his enemies lick the dust. May the kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring gifts; May the kings of Sheba and Seba offer tributes. And may all kings bow down before him, All nations serve him."

  2. Peace & Justice

    1. Global peace will prevail; instruments of war will be transformed into tools of cultivation.

      - Isaiah 2:4, "And He will judge between the nations, And will mediate for many peoples; And they will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning knives. Nation will not lift up a sword against nation, And never again will they learn war."

    2. Justice and Righteousness will define society, reflecting God's Holiness.

      - Daniel 7:13-14, "I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a son of man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, Honor, and a kingdom, So that all the peoples, nations, and populations of all languages Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed."

    3. The Curse of sin will be restrained, though human rebellion is not yet fully eradicated.

      - Revelation 20:7-8, "When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison, and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together for the war; the number of them is like the sand of the seashore."

  3. Resurrection & Rewards Of The Faithful

    1. Believers who died in Faith during the Church Age and Tribulation are resurrected to reign with Christ.

      - Revelation 20:4-6, "Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their foreheads and on their hands; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him for a thousand years."

    2. This period allows for reward and authority, demonstrating God's faithfulness to those who endured.

      - 2 Timothy 4:7-8, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing."

  4. Restoration Of Creation

    1. The natural world will be renewed; harmony will exist among animals and humanity.

      - Revelation 20:1-3, "Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he took hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he threw him into the abyss and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time."

    2. His temporary restraint allows Christ's righteous reign to be fully established.
