Introduction

Faith is one of the most talked about aspects of the Christian life . . . and yet, one of the most personally challenging to live out. It is very easy to say we believe in God. It is much harder to trust Him when life feels unclear, when prayers seem unanswered, or when circumstances do not make any sense to us.

There are moments when Faith feels strong; when everything seems aligned and very hopeful. However, there are times of quiet moments, hidden ones, where doubt comes and whispers:

"Can I really trust God with this?"

Faith is NOT proven in the easy seasons; no, it is formed in the uncertain ones.

This week, we are not just going to define what Faith is, but we are going to step into what it actually looks like to trust God deeply, honestly, and personally . . . even when you do not have all the answers to life.

What Faith Really Is

Faith is often misunderstood as a 'feeling of certainty' or 'confidence'. However, Biblical Faith from Scripture goes much deeper than emotion; it is a decision to trust God's character, even when your circumstances feel unstable.

  • "Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen."

    - Hebrews 11:1

Faith is NOT blind - it is anchored! But it is anchored in something you cannot always see.

This means that Faith is not:

  • Having All The Answers

  • Feeling Confident All The Time

  • Never Experiencing Doubt

Faith Is:

  • Choosing To Believe God Is Who He Says He Is

  • Trusting His Word Over Your Situation

  • Continuing To Walk Forward, Even When The Path Is Unclear

Faith says, "God, I do not understand, but I trust You."

Faith Is Built On Who God Is

If your Faith is built only on what God does, it will struggle when life does not go the way you expected it to. But when your Faith is built on who God is, it becomes steady, even in uncertainty.

  • "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6

Notice what this requires: letting go of your need to understand everything.

This is where Faith becomes deeply personal.

There are moments where:

  • You Do Not See The Outcome

  • You Do Not Understand The Delay

  • You Do Not Feel God's Presence The Way You Want To

And in those moments, Faith is NOT about figuring everything out; it is about surrendering your need to do this. You are not trusting a plan, but you are trusting the Person, Jesus.

Faith In The Waiting

One of the greatest tests of Faith is not crisis like we are taught, it is us in waiting.

  • Waiting For Answers

  • Waiting For Change

  • Waiting For Direction

It is in the waiting that doubts often grow louder within:

  • "Did God Hear Me?"

  • "Is Anything Actually Happening?"

  • "What If Nothing Changes?"

When you hear these doubts, remember what Scripture says:

  • "But those who wait on the lord shall renew their strength . . ." - Isaiah 40:31

Waiting is NOT wasted time, it is where Faith is strengthened. In the time of waiting, God is often doing something deeper than what you are asking for:

  • Building Patience

  • Developing Trust

  • Shaping Your Heart

Faith in the waiting seasons says:

  • "Even if I do not see it yet, I believe You are working."

How Do We Face Doubt?

Many believers quietly wrestle with doubt constantly and then feel ashamed by it. But doubt does NOT disqualify your Faith in Christ. Even those closest to Jesus experienced moments of uncertainty.

  • "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!" - Mark 9:24

This is one of the most honest prayers in Scripture. Faith is NOT the absence of doubt, but it is bringing your doubt to God instead of hiding it from Him. You do not have to pretend with God, you just have to be honest with Him.

  • "God, I'm Struggling To Trust Right Now."

  • "I Do Not Understand What You Are Doing."

  • "Help Me To Believe."

If you are that honest with yourself and your Faith in Christ, your Faith actually grows.

Faith Is Expressed Through Surrender

Faith is NOT just something you believe, it is something you live.

It shows up in how you respond in Faith:

  • When Things Do Not Go Your Way

  • When You Feel Uncertain

  • When You Are Asked To Let Go Of Control

  • "Thus also Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." - James 2:17

This does NOT mean you earn anything, it means real Faith will produce action.

Faith says:

  • "I Will Follow, Even When It Is Uncomfortable."

  • "I Will Trust, Even When I Do Not Feel Peace Yet."

  • "I Will Obey, Even When I Do Not See The Full Picture In View."

Faith is NOT passive, it is responsive!

When Faith Feels Small

There will be seasons in life when your Faith feels weak.

You may feel like:

  • You Are Barely Holding On

  • Your Prayers Feel Empty

  • Your Confidence Is Fading

But here is the encouragement that Jesus gives us:

  • "If you have Faith as a mustard seed . . . nothing will be impossible for you."

    - Matthew 17:20

God is NOT asking for perfect Faith from you. He honors even the smallest act of Faith because it is even in the most fragile of trusting Him that He trusts you. What matters is NOT the size of your Faith, but where you place it. Even in having weak Faith, but believing in a strong God, that itself is powerful!

Conclusion

Faith is NOT about always feeling strong. It is about choosing to trust, again and again.

Trusting Means:

  • When You Understand

  • When You Do Not Understand

  • When You Feel Close

  • When You Feel Distant

Faith is a journey, NOT about a moment. Every step that you take in Christ by trusting Him, even the very smallest ones that seem insignificant to you, it is forming something deeper within you:

A Life Rooted In Christ!

Application

This week, begin to actively practice Faith in your daily life:

  • Identify One Area Where You Are Struggling To Trust God.

  • Talk To God Honestly About It Each Day.

  • Choose One Small Step Of Obedience, Even If It Feels Uncomfortable.

Practice this prayer daily: "God, I do not need to understand everything, but I still choose to trust You. Strengthen my Faith where it feels weak."

Reflection Questions

  1. What area of my life is hardest for me to turst God with right now?

  2. Do I base my Faith more on circumstances or on God's character?

  3. How do I usually respond when I do not undesrtand what God is doing?

  4. What would it look like for me to take one step of Faith this week?

Closing Prayer

Father, teach me what it truly means to trust You. Not just when things are clear, but when they are uncertain. Help me to release my need for control and to rest in who You are. When doubt comes, remind me of Your faithfulness. When my Faith feels weak, strengthen me. I choose to trust you, not because I see everything, but because I believe You are good. Lead me, Guide me, and Grow my Faith day by day.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
